India, Bhutan review plans for 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties

Indian Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar called on Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk and held meetings with officials here on preparations for the celebrations of 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2018.

Jaishankar his Bhutanese counterpart Dasho Sonam Tshong and reviewed bilateral relations, including implementation of the ongoing of assisted projects under Bhutan's XIth Five Year Plan, priorities of Bhutan for the XIIth Five Year Plan, trade and economic ties, hydropower cooperation, and people to people contacts.

He also called on former monarch Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Prime Minister of Bhutan, Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay, and Foreign Minister Lyonpo Damcho Dorji.

The visit of Foreign Secretary Jaishankar was in keeping with the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between both countries to strengthen and expand unique ties.
