Skoda Kodiaq SUV India Launch Live Updates: Price, Dimensions, Specifications, Features

The Skoda Kodiaq takes on the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and even the Volkswagen Tiguan, though it is a 5-seater. The SUV is based on the MQB platform and this is the first 7-seater from Skoda India.

The new Skoda Kodiaq SUV has finally gone on sale in India today and we have all the highlights from the launch event here. We have already driven the new Kodiaq and told you all about it and this is the first seven-seater SUV from Skoda India. The Skoda Kodiaq is built on the same MQB platform as the Volkswagen Tiguan and in India, along with its German counterpart the Kodaiq will also rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, and Isuzu MU-X. The new Skoda Kodiaq SUV has been launched in India in only one - Style - variants and is priced at Rs. 34.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Skoda India is offering the India-spec Skoda Kodiaq will be offered in only one powertrain option for now - a 2-litre diesel engine mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. The new DQ500 diesel engine makes about 148 bhp at 3,500-4,000 rpm and develops a peak torque of 340 Nm at 1,750-3,000 rpm. The Kodiaq gets 4x4 as standard, which is on all the time with the torque vectoring system delivering 96 per cent of the torque to the front wheels. Upon requirement, it could send up to 50 per cent of the torque to the rear wheels as well.

The interior of the new Skoda Kodiaq, on the other hand, gets a more luxurious treatment with a well laid-out dashboard with soft-touch plastic and wooden panels. At the centre you get a large 8-inch touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features include ambient lighting, hands-free park-assist, electric sunroof, and more.

Skoda Kodiaq Design and Features
The 7-seater configuration of the Skoda Kodiaq is standard for the Indian market. So you'll get a  boot space of 270 litres when all seats are upright and a massive 2005 litres with the 2nd and 3rd row down.

The Skoda Kodiaq employs the company's latest crystalline design language with sharp lines, creased metal and layered bejeweled lighting elements. The wide, three-dimensional radiator grille is striking and the narrow, raked headlights flow seamlessly into the radiator grille. The grille is flanked by sharp headlamps and LED daytime running lights.

Though the Skoda Kodiaq and the Volkswagen Tiguan are based on the same MQB platform, the former is a 7-seater and is longer at 4,697 mm, wider at 1,882 mm, and even taller at 1,676 mm and comes with a wheelbase of 2,791 mm. At the same time, the ground clearance is also pretty decent at 187 mm, which is better than the Tiguan's 149 mm.

As mentioned before the Kodiaq is the first full-size SUV from the carmaker, but the company is not entirely new to this segment. Earlier Skoda introduced the Yeti in India, a 5-seater soft-roader which could really give SUVs in this space a run for their money. Sadly it was not as well received as in other global markets, and with the introduction of 7-seaters like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, which came with a similar price tag, the Yeti lost whatever little hold it had on the segment. But, with the new Kodiaq, Skoda hope to regain its position in the full-size SUV space.
