School bus turn turtle; 1 dead, 8 injured

A 23-year-old pedestrian was killed on the spot and eight others including four schoolchildren were injured after a school bus collided with a scooter and a BMTC bus before turning turtle on Dubasipalya junction in Kengeri on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Dildar, a construction labourer from Patna, Bihar. The injured have been identified as Saikumar and Vismay who were riding the scooter, Nagamma the attendant and four children in the bus.

Police said, that the Orchid International school bus was on its way to pick up children to school and driver Shivakumar (40) in a bid to take ‘U’ turn at the junction in a rash and negligent manner, hit the scooter and BMTC bus before his bus toppled.

Passers-by immediately rushed to help the victims and saved all the four children and woman attendant from the bus but Dildar was crushed under the bus.

Shivakumar, driver of the bus who also sustained minor injuries has been arrested by the Kengeri police on charges of dangerous driving. The school children who suffered minor injuries were shifted to private hospital and discharged later in the day.
