CHENNAI: A 30-year-old woman was found dead in her house at Avadi with her throat slit on Tuesday. Her six-sovereign ‘thaali’ was missing and police suspect she was killed by men who wanted to rob her of gold.

The deceased identified as Mohana Priya, wife of a realtor Nisha Rajan, was alone in her on Kollumedu in Avadi. “At around 12.30 pm on Tuesday, a neighbour visited Mohana to find the main door of the house open and Mohana was found dead with a slit mark on her neck. The neighbour informed the victim’s husband who rushed to the house.  At around 1 pm, the Avadi Tank Factory police reached the crime spot, found the woman murdered and her jewels missing and suspected it to be a case of murder for gain,” said a police officer.

“Rajan had gone to his office, while their two children, both below 10 years, had gone to school in the same locality, when the incident was reported,” the officer added. Meanwhile, a senior police officer said a preliminary investigation revealed that there were no traces of forced entry into the house. Hence, the suspect might have been known to the woman and gained easy entry into the house.

The individual house is not equipped with CCTV camera and hence the police are scanning the CCTV in the nearby buildings to trace the suspect. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
The body has been sent to the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital for autopsy. It may be recalled that on September 8,  52-year-old Kala was murdered for gain at her house in Triplicane and around 40 sovereigns of gold were missing from her house.
