Tamil Nadu coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar exuded confidence ahead of a fresh Ranji season. The side meets Andhra in its first game here on October 6.
“The blend in the team is good, looks solid. We have Test regulars with us. That helps us,” Knaitkar said after a practice session. “But we need to play well. Not taking anything for granted. We have been playing well since last year. We have set a standard.”
The side is missing a few cricketers either owning to injuries or India or India ‘A’ commitments but Kanitkar said, “All the cricketers in the squad are ready to play. We have plenty of cricketers and we are prepared.”
On the return of the home and away matches this season, Kanitkar said, “It is not like how it was earlier where you target two teams and go after outright wins. Things have changed. Good teams also lose outright. No result cannot be counted out in the tournament.”
Kanitkar said the pitch for the match appeared a little damp. “We will know only on Thursday afternoon when the watering is done and it becomes dry.
Asked about Washington Sundar’s impressive performances this season, Kanitkar said, “He is unaffected at the level and the opponents. He does what he knows and has a lot of self belief. Those are his strengths.”
