The Times of India reports that Advani approached the Padma Bhushan awardee with the idea and the latter readily agreed. The same report quotes Radhakrishnan as saying, "I wrote the book to share my life's experiences, especially with the younger generation. I want them to know how a small-town boy reached this position and get motivated by the story. I faced several hardships, but overcame them all, as an individual."

Advani came across this idea when he saw a picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the team behind the Mangalyaan mission. Diving deep into his research, Advani went on to read Radhakrishnan's book My Odyssey, as per the same report.

"The more I read about it, the more I was fascinated by the fact that we had sent the Mars Orbiter — the cheapest and the fastest version — successfully, and that too, in the very first attempt," said Advani, who is all set to produce the official biopic under his banner of Emmay Entertainment, that has recently churned out films like Raja Krishna Menon's 2016 period drama Airlift and Ranjit Tiwari's 2017 crime musical Lucknow Central.
