Honeypreet in custody of Haryana police, says 'truth will prevail'

- Honeypreet had accompanied Ram Rahim from sect headquarters at Sirsa to a special CBI court in Panchkula on August 25.
- On September 26, the Delhi High Court had dismissed the transit anticipatory bail plea of Honeypreet Insan.
Honeypreet, who is in her thirties, is the adopted daughter of Ram Rahim whose conviction in a rape case triggered mob violence that killed 36 people across Haryana.

NEW DELHI: After being on the run for over a month, Honeypreet Insan, the "adopted daughter" of jailed Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, walked into the Mohali police station and was taken into custody by Haryana police.
Honeypreet alias Priyanka Taneja, went into hiding soon after large-scale violence broke out in different parts of Haryana, Punjab and Delhi on August 25 following Ram Rahim's conviction in two rape cases. She and other top Dera members were booked for inciting violence.
"We have taken her into custody,'' said Panchkula DCP Manbir Singh.
Talking to reporters at Panchkula, Police Commissioner AS Chawla said, "She has been taken into custody by SIT in-charge (Mukesh Kumar) from Zirakpur-Patiala road in Punjab. She is being brought to Panchkula for questioning in connection with the incidents of violence".
"Her role in the violence (after Ram Rahim's conviction on August 25) will be probed ... who provided her shelter or support during her run from police will also be produced. She will be produced before a court (in Panchkula) tomorrow and we will seek her police remand," Chawla said.
Chawla also said that another woman who was accompanying her was also taken into custody.
He said Punjab Police has been informed about the arrest.
The Delhi high court last week dismissed her transit anticipatory bail application.
There had been reports that Honeypreet had fled to Nepal following Ram Rahim's sentencing.
"I was very much in India, I did not go to Nepal," she told TV channels on Tuesday.
Honeypreet claimed she is innocent+ .
"Truth will prevail and the world will see this. I'm pained and shocked, how can the world do this to us? We are great patriots and we love India," said Honeypreet.
