Multiple statistics from a variety of sources suggest that obesity is becoming increasingly more prevalent, putting a greater emphasis on healthy eating and engaging in physical activity. A series of reports that appeared in the Lancet in 2011 that combined BMI data from adults 25 years and older from health examination surveys and epidemiological studies indicated that more than one in 10 of the world’s adults was obese in 2008. Additional findings from the Global Burden of Disease collaborators earlier this year published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that worldwide, nearly one in three people were overweight or obese in 2015.
