Doctors, in response to the call given by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), staged dharna on Monday protesting against the attacks on them and on their hospitals.

They also demanded the enactment of a uniform Act to prevent attacks on them, amendment to the existing Act, banning ineligible and unqualified persons from medical practice, exempting MBBS candidates from appearing the medical board exam, withdrawal of decision to bring about the national medical council and also central clinical establishment. IMA Nizamabad president Ravindra Soory, secretary A. Srinivas, senior doctors Madhusudhan, Laxma Reddy, G. Koulaiah, Vinodkumar Gupta, J. Bapu Reddy, Sureshkumar, N. Ramchander, Sandhya Rani, Ramadevi and Malleeswari participated in the dharna. MLC and senior orthopaedic surgeon R. Bhoopathi Reddy and the ruling party leaders expressed their solidarity to the doctors.

Adilabad Special Correspondent writes: All the 40 private hospitals and nursing homes and 15 clinics in Adilabad town remained closed on Monday as doctors, all members of the Indian Medical Association, staged a protest in solidarity with the IMA at national-level.
