City received record rainfall on Monday. The 13.2 cm of rain at Mir Alam was the highest Hyderabad is believed to have witnessed in October ever.

According to data with the India Meteorological Department, Hyderabad received 11.7 cm of rain on October 6, 1903, recorded at Begumpet. That number paled in comparison with the rainfall recorded near Mir Alam on Monday. In fact, two other areas, Rajendra Nagar and Amberpet, recorded more than the all-time record in about four hours.

Golkonda and Monda Market received over 12 cm of rain while 16 other weather stations across the city recorded heavy rainfall, defined by weathermen as a recording greater than 6.4 cm until 10 p.m.

Weather officials pegged the rainfall, triggered by a localised thunderstorm, to weather systems over Rayalaseema and in the vicinity of coastal Odisha. Several parts of South Telangana in Mahbubnagar, Vikarabad and Nalgonda, received moderate rainfall.
