Former Deputy Superintendent of Police Anupama Shenoy has decided to take a plunge into politics by floating a new party.
“Yes, I am serious about floating a new political party. We have already started the spadework and [we] hope to complete all the formalities as early as possible so that we can contest in the upcoming Assembly elections,” Ms. Shenoy told The Hindu.
Apart from striving to achieve ‘Gram Swaraj’, the proposed party will focus on the fight against corruption and work to bring about “pro-environment and pro-women” policies, she said. “The party will also act as a bridge between government servants and the public,” she added.
Ms. Shenoy also expressed her plans in a Facebook post, in which she stated that she had met several people after quitting and a majority suggested that she float a political party.
“When I broached the subject with my close friends and like-minded people, they supported me. So I have posted about my intentions on Gandhi Jayanti, to realise Gandhiji’s dreams of Gram Swaraj,” the post said.
