Recruitment in universities in Telangana will get tougher with the Government likely to introduce screening of candidates for elimination much before they are called for the interview.
The screening processes are being studied by a committee constituted by the State Government and the final recommendations are ready to be submitted.
Officials involved in the process revealed that the new selection processes would totally cut down manipulation and political influences that are known in recruitments. “Only the meritorious among all sections will get an opportunity,” a senior official said.
The team, consisting of Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) Chairman T. Papi Reddy, two Vice-Chairmen V. Venkataramana and Limbadri apart from the Vice-Chancellors of Osmania University, JNTU Hyderabad, and B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU), visited several universities in the country to study the guidelines and made its recommendations in view of the Government deciding to fill 1,061 posts in 11 universities.
While the technical universities like the JNTUH or JNAFAU will conduct a screening test to weed out a large number of applicants, the conventional varsities like Osmania or Kakatiya will take into consideration the academic track of the candidates, their research publications and the seriousness of research.
A committee of senior professors will screen these documents and assess applicants’ capabilities to select 20:1 ratio for the final interview.
Officials said 65% of score would be based on these capabilities while 35% will be meant for interview. Only those with solid credentials will get a call for interview and everything will be transparent.
A senior official felt the norms in Delhi Technical University to be very strong and the committee is recommending some of them. “Moreover, discussions with senior academics in various universities have also got us valuable inputs.”
Officials are also sure of negating any political influence with the processes being strong and at the same time are confident of there being literally no political pressures as Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao himself wants merit alone to be the consideration.
“In fact, the CM wants to attract highly qualified and reputed teachers of Telangana origin working in universities outside the State,” a senior official said.
The Government has recently given its nod for recruitment of 1,061 posts, including 692 assistant professors, 270 associate professors and 99 professors all the 11 State universities.
