Star batsman Ajinkya Rahane wished the Indian team all the best for the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup. The tournament starts on October 6 with India playing the first match in Delhi against the USA U-17 team. “Wishing Indian Under 17 football team lots of luck,” said Rahane in a video posted on his social media handles, “I’m sure you guys will do well. We all are supporting you from here. Just go and enjoy yourself.” Rahane is known to be an ardent football fan and had earlier exchanged jerseys with Bayern Munich. The German giants had sent him their jersey with his name and number on it. In return he sent an Indian jersey with his name back to Munich where it was pictured in the hand of star winger Arjen Robben.

Earlier, Rahane’s India teammate and captain Virat Kohli had extended his support for the Indian colts. “Our Under-17 boys are taking part in the FIFA U-17 World Cup which starts on October 6,” said Kohli in his video, “Their first match is against Team USA. I would like to wish them all the very best for the first game and the rest of the tournament. Go get it boys, make us proud.”

The U-17 World Cup is the first ever FIFA tournament to be held in India. It is also the first time that India will be represented in a FIFA World Cup across age groups. India will be playing their group matches in New Delhi with USA, Ghana and Colombia being in the same group as them. The other venues chosen for the tournament are Kolkata, Guwahati, Navi Mumbai, Kochi and Margao. The final will be played on October 26 at Kolkata’s Salt Lake stadium.
