Gandhi Jayanthi: KPCC holds all-religion prayer meet

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Various organisations observed Gandhi Jayanthi with commemoration meetings and sanitation programmes on Monday.KPCC president M M Hassan led the Gandhi Jayanthi observance at Indira Bhavan. Leaders offered floral tributes in front of a portrait of Gandhiji. An all-religion prayer meeting was held as part of the function.Former KPCC president V M Sudheeran, V S Sivakumar MLA, KPCC general secretaries Thampanoor Ravi, T Sarath Chandra Prasad, DCC president Neyyattinkara Sanal, Palode Ravi, P K Venugopal, Manacaud Suresh, Dalit Congress state president K Vidyadharan, Kavalloor Madhu, V S Hareendranath, Shyam Kumar, M A Latheef, Krishnakumar, Thycaud Sreekandan and Kottathala Mohanan attended.

O Rajagopal MLA inaugurated the observance organised by the BJP district office. The programme was in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s exhortion “sanitation is service”. BJP district president S Suresh, leaders K Raman Pillai, P Raghavan, Poonthura Sreekumar and K Rajasekharan attended.
Medical College Hospital superintendent M S Sharmad inaugurated the Gandhi Jayanthi Week observance at the hospital. A special sanitation drive was conducted on the hospital premises. Awareness classes, Gandhi Smriti exhibition, anti-drug abuse poster exhibition and enumeration of trees on the campus form part of the week-long programmes.    

Schools
Several schools in the capital organised sanitation campaigns. An awareness campaign on organ donation was held at the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan where the participants signed pledges for organ donation after death.
