Heavy rain pounded the city on Monday, throwing life out of gear on the streets and claiming a life.
An upper-air weather system over Rayalseema caused thunderstorm in southern Telangana, including GHMC and surrounding areas. The weather station at Prof. Jayashankar Agriculture University in Rajendranagar recorded over 8 cm of rain in two hours, followed by 7.3 cm witnessed by Monda Market. Traffic movement along all key stretches was reduced to a crawl. A 40-year-old man lost his life after an overhead power line snapped and landed on a truck at Murgi Chowk near Charminar on Monday, following heavy rain.
According to the police, the man, identified as Shaheen Nagar resident Afsar, an idol maker, was about to board a truck when he was electrocuted. An overhead power line that had snapped landed on the truck after the area recorded heavy rain in just two hours.
The downpour also caused power outage, mainly in the central part of the city and Charminar area. Senior electricity officials said around 66 feeders tripped. “An upper-air circulation over Rayalseema caused the thunderstorm, with rain largely concentrated in South Telangana,” Y.K. Reddy, Director-In-Charge of IMD Hyderabad, said. The IMD forecast thunder showers towards evening or night on Wednesday.
