BENGALURU: A man who was rescued while attempting suicide from Windsor Manor Bridge is refusing to sleep or sit in a room at NIMHANS where he is admitted. Police said they also found injury marks similar to those found on victims of Blue Whale challenge.

Around 3.30pm on Sunday, passersby noticed Ajay Kumar, 28, climbing over the bridge and informed police. High Grounds Police, who were heading to Palace Grounds to inspect security arrangements there for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s visit, rescued Kumar. Police suspect he was influenced by the Blue Whale challenge. Police added that Ajay continuously shouted in Hindi ‘download the app’.
Policemen who were deployed to his room said Kumar stood in his room at NIMHANS the entire night stood and refused to have food. He also demanded an iPhone to play games. Police said when he called his parents from the hospital, he asked them bring him the phone.

Ajay’s parents are on their way to Bengaluru from Bihar, after which Ajay’s treatment will begin, said the police. They added that his parents had not been able to contact Ajay for the past three days.
On Sunday, Ajay had told police that he was being harassed by his house owner and daughter. Ajay also gave a Mysuru address when asked for his residential address, but his parents told police that he lives in Bengaluru. “So it is not clear where he lives. Kumar also said someone had stolen his phone while playing a game. We are waiting to take statements from his parents. We also found fresh injury marks on his left hand similar to those found on victims of the Blue Whale challenge. There are injuries on both knees,”  a police officer said.NIMHANS authorities refused to comment.
