BSP leader shot dead in Allahabad

Allahabad: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Rajesh Yadav (46), a resident of Park Road was shot by unidentified assailants near Tarachand Hostel in Colonelganj during the wee hours of Tuesday. He had contested the 2017 Assembly election from Gyanpur seat of Bhadohi district on BSP ticket but lost.
His supporters turned violent and ransacked and torched a roadways bus near Indian Press crossing. It resulted in commotion on the busy crossing. The commuters ran for cover. The mob also manhandled three photographers, who had gone to cover the incident and damaged their mobile phones.
Heavy police force rushed to the spot and chased away the mob. The agitators pelted stones on police. The mob re-grouped and targeted three vehicles near CMP College road and also made an abortive bid to torch another bus. The police foiled their attempt. SSP Anand Kulkarni said that Yadav and a doctor friend had gone to Tarachand Hostel at around 2:30 am (wee hours of Tuesday) to meet some inmates.
While returning, he had a tiff with unidentified persons outside the hostel. They pelted stones on his vehicle and also fired on them. The BSP leader sustained gun shot injuries and was rushed to his friend's nursing home but died during treatment.
