From adding the ability to delete sent messages or switch between video and voice calls or granular storage control feature, WhatsApp has been testing out several new features in its beta program for Android devices.
And now the popular instant messaging platform has just unveiled its own set of universal emojis for Android beta. Interestingly, the new set of "universal" emojis bears great similarities to Apple's emoticons, as per Emojipedia. However, the new set of smiley faces will now most likely look the same regardless of the mobile operating system.
WhatsApp has started rolling out the new emojis for Android beta version 2.17.364 starting Monday and people involved in the WhatsApp's beta program should be able to see the new emojis when they use the app.
If you are curious, Emojipedia has published the comparison images which you can see below and it's quite obvious that the team has worked creatively to make them a little bit different than the Apple's emoticons.
However, the Facebook-owned service is still testing this emoji pack with the private beta version, there is still a possibility that these emojis might also get redesigned in the final version. In any case, if testing concludes without any major bugs or the feedback is good from the testers everyone should be getting them very soon. The good thing though in all this is that there'll be more consistency across platforms both iOS and Android.
As of now no official word regarding the rollout or proper release date has been shared but the new set of emojis should be hitting Android devices mostly by end of the year.
