Bharti Airtel on Tuesday said that the National Communications Authority — Ghana’s communications regulator, had approved the merger of Bharti Ghana Ltd. and Millicom Ghana Ltd. (Tigo), subject to certain conditions.

The merger was announced in March this year. “This merger will result in an entity which will be the second-largest mobile network operations in the country,” the company said in a statement.

The merged entity would have a 3G licence valid until January 25, 2024, while the 2G licence would be valid until October 30, 2021. “The merger approval is also conditioned with an option for government participation,” the company added.
