[India], October 03 (ANI): The Esplanade Court in Mumbai on Tuesday sent accused Amit Ajit Gill to a three-day-judicial custody in connection with a cricket betting racket.

He filed a bail plea earlier today and the hearing will take place on October 6.

Earlier on September 27, the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested Gill and had sent him to police custody till October 3.

Ajit Gill is said to be the relative of a Bollywood star Arjun Rampal, but while leaving the court after remand proceedings, he shouted and said; "I don't have any relation with Rampal".

Before Amit Gill, six other accused were also arrested in this case.

An FIR in this case has been registered in relevant sections for gambling and other Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 429, 465, 468 and 471 for forgery.

According to the FIR in this case, the accused was using software called 'Bingo' for the betting racket which is considered comparatively safe for betting because they can erase all data after a particular match.

This case revolves on the matches between India and Sri Lanka in the last previous months.

Meanwhile, Public prosecutor had sought Gill's police custody for the purpose of taking his voice sample and the details of financial transactions in betting.

Amit Gill's lawyer argued in court that according to the remand copy, his role was limited to the extent of only talking to the earlier accused over the phone, so should not be accused of forgery. He demanded that Gill should not be sent to police custody.

Public prosecutor then opposed this argument by saying that for now Gill is arrested in the overall offences in the FIR; he can't be separated from his earlier charges. So, he should be given police custody. (ANI)
