Mumbai: The trial run of the third Rajdhani Express train proposed between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Bandra Terminus was delayed by 30 minutes, with the train reaching Bandra at 6.40 a.m. instead of 6.10 a.m. on Monday.
The train, being touted as the fastest Rajdhani class train between Delhi and Mumbai, will cover the distance in 13 hours. The existing Rajdhani Express and August Kranti Rajdhani Express clock 15 and 17 hours, respectively.
The trial was originally scheduled for September 30, but was put off to October 1 following the stampede at Elphinstone Road railway station. The train started from Hazrat Nizamuddin at 4.25 p.m. on October 1, with 18 coaches and two locomotives, and ran at a speed of 130 kmph.
“The train was on a trial run, so the half-hour delay is not a significant one. We are checking the reason for the delay, and will rectify the problem in its next run,” a senior Western Railway official said.
