Bhopal: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said a bill to check supply and sale of spurious liquor will be tabled in state assembly soon. Chouhan stated this while addressing a convention organised by Gayatri Parivar on Gandhi Jayanti at Ravindra Bhavan on Monday. In his address, Chouhan said many cancer patients come to CM house to seek financial aid. “I feel bad for them. But total prohibition at one go will not solve the problem, as it will promote illegal liquor in the state. It will be equally dangerous. Besides, liquor mafia will become active in the state. So, we will move gradually towards total prohibition. We will move from Nasha-Mukti to Nasha Bandi in the state,” he remarked.
Chouhan said state government decided not to allow any new wine shop in state four years ago. “But we have taken steps not to allow any wine shop on periphery of Narmada river during Narmada Yatra. Similarly, we will not allow any new manufacturing unit of liquor in the state. This way, we’ll achieve the target,” he added. Earlier, MP Alok Sanjar, Gufa Mandir priest Mahant Chandradas, Sikh Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee chief Gyani Dilip Singh, Brahmkumari Avadhesh Kumari and Atma Ram Maharaj from Jain community addressed the convention.
Gayatri Parivar took out vehicle rally to press the demand for total prohibition in the state. A memorandum containing signatures of 50,000 people including MLAs and MPs was handed over to chief minister for enforcing total prohibition in state. Social justice and disabilities welfare department principal secretary Ashok Shah said department will continue to organise de-addiction week in association with Gyatri Parivar. It will be held from October 2 to October 8. He said this while expressing his views at a seminar organised at Gayatri Shakti Peeth.
