Indore: An engineering student of Sri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Science and Technology was seriously injured and went into coma after a dead tree on the institute campus fall on him. The injured, Ujjawal Choure of Bhopal, is battling for his life at CHL Hospital even as his classmates are collecting funds for his treatment. Surgery on him is to be performed on October 8.
BE second year student, Ujjwal was going from one classroom to another when a dead tree on the campus suddenly fell on him on September 26. He was seriously injured in the mishap and was rushed to MY Hospital from where he was later shifted to Greater Kailash Hospital. Ujjwal had received serious wounds in his head and spinal cord. Due to blood clotting in his brain, the student went into coma. His family members lately shifted him to CHL Hospital where further surgery will be performed on him.
As per an estimate, about Rs 8 lakh would be required for his treatment. As Ujjawal comes from a poor family, his classmates are arranging funds for his treatment. In an email to students of the institute, his classmates said: “As you all know that our friend Ujjwal met with an accident on September 26 evening and is on ventilator. Daily expense of his treatment is around Rs 50,000 because his very critical condition. Doctors advised four surgeries of brain, heart, lungs and spine. Every one of us is doing the best possible we can and expect the same from you all because his family’s financial condition is weak.”
As per information, the students have collected about Rs 1.5 lakh so far even as the college has committed a contribution of Rs 2.5 lakh. The alumni association has also assured them of contributing for the treatment of Ujjawal. Describing the incident unfortunate, SGSITS director RK Saxena said that they have so far committed Rs 2.5 lakh for the treatment of Ujjwal and if need be more funds will be given from the college’s coffer.
Former principal demands govt to bear medical expenses
Describing the incident as ‘natural phenomenon’, Government Holkar College retired principal Ram Shrivastava has uploaded a message on his Facebook account demanding compensation from the state government to bear expenses of Ujjawal’s treatment. “The government gives compensation in natural disasters and the incident took place at SGSITS too is a natural disaster. So, the government should pay for treatment of the victim,” the professor argued. He is getting a lot of support from netizens.
