Militants on Tuesday evening shot dead a former village headman of the ruling Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) in south Kashmir's Anantnag district.
Police said militants fired at Ghulam Rasool, 50, a former panch of the ruling PDP in Akoora village.
"He was fired at from close range and succumbed to critical injuries before he could be shifted to hospital," police said.
