NEW DELHI: Nifty PSU Bank index traded choppy on Tuesday with shares of State Bank of India (down 0.98 per cent), Punjab National Bank (down 0.27 per cent) and Bank of Baroda (down 0.07 per cent) losing in trade.

Meanwhile, other sectoral indices were gaining in Tuesday's trade, reflecting bullish market sentiment.

The Nifty PSU Bank was trading 0.61 per cent down at 3,024 around 12:30 pm (IST).

However, bank stocks such as Oriental Bank of Commerce (up 1.55 per cent), Andhra Bank (up 0.80 per cent), Syndicate Bank (up 0.80 per cent), Bank of India (up 0.58 per cent) and Allahabad Bank (up 0.38 per cent) were up around that time.

The Nifty Auto index remained at the top among the sectoral gainers. Tata Motors, Bharat Forge and Motherson Sumi were the top gainers auto stocks.

Shares of Tata Motors climbed as much as 7 per cent in the morning trade on reports that it had won the first contract to supply electric vehicles to replace petrol and diesel cars used by the government and its departments.

The company also said on Sunday that its September domestic passenger and commercial vehicle sales rose by 25 per cent to 53,965 units.

FMCG, metal and realty stocks were also catching investors' attention.

FMCG major Godrej Consumer Products surged up to 5 per cent in Tuesday's trade.

Among the metal stocks, APL Apollo Tubes jumped 8 per cent. Sobha led the Nifty Realty index with gains of 3 per cent.

On the NSE, 1091 stocks were advancing, compared with 551 stocks declining and 360 stocks remaining unchanged.
