Heavy shelling began along the Line of Control in the Kerni area around 6.30 am. India is retaliating "strongly and effectively" and firing is still on, officers said. The injured have been taken to hospital.
"Pakistani forces started unprovoked shelling and firing at Indian positions and the military is befittingly responding," a senior officer said, adding that Pakistani troops targeted dozens of villages and posts in Shahpur, Kerni and Qasba sectors.
Pakistan has violated ceasefire a number of times in the last few months. Last week, Pakistani troops had opened fire in the Poonch and Bhimbher Gali sectors. On September 24, two soldiers were injured in exchange of fire in Poonch district's Balakote sector.
A 10-year-old boy and a teenage girl were killed and seven other people got injured in firing by Pakistani troops near Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district this morning, the Army said. 15-year-old girl Jasmin Akhtar was killed in Digwar area. The boy has been identified as Israr Ahmad.
