Dussehra turned out to be a good time for the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) as the office registered 25 per cent increase in vehicle registration and 32 per cent increase in their revenues. With vehicle companies and showrooms bombarding consumers with different offers, the start of the festive season looks positive for the automotive industry.

The figures released by the RTO shows a total of 8,689 vehicles were registered between September 25 and 30.This was the peak period of Navratri when such buying gets a major boost. Last year, during the same period, 6,916 vehicles were registered. The total tax collected during this period was Rs 26,96,42,856 which was Rs 20,29,46,261 last year — a growth of 32 per cent.

As against 4,540 motorcycles registered last year, 5,741 bikes were registered this year. Against 1,760 cars registered last year, 2,075 cars were registered this year. This year, 873 transport vehicles were registered while last year 616 such registrations were recorded.

Dussehra is considered an auspicious occasion to purchase a vehicle; many people tend to book early, but take the delivery during this time. Special schemes are run by manufactures and showrooms to woo customers. After a lull in sales since demonetisation, the automotive industry saw increased sales during the festive season. With Dussehra starting on a festive note, hopes are now pinned on Diwali for more sales.
