Car driven at a high speed hits divider, lands on their vehicle

Five of a family got crushed to death while two more injured when an oncoming car, which flung into air after hitting the median, fell on their car near Basanthnagar in Peddapalli district on Monday.

The victims were returning to their house in Karimnagar town after attending Moharrum in their home-town of Kagaznagar in Komuram Bheem district when the ghastly accident occurred around 8.30 a.m. A battery shop owner Azeem, 35, was sitting on the front seat along with his younger brother Nazeer's one year-old daughter Arifa. “Naseer was driving the sedan,” Peddapalli Inspector A. Mahesh said. Since the four-lane road was obstruction-free, the sedan going towards Peddapalli from Godavarikhani side and the car coming in the opposite direction were believed to be at a high speed, the police said. It was yet to be ascertained what exactly happened but the car driver Sudarshan Reddy, a security guard with a cement factory, coming from Peddapalli, lost control and rammed the divider.

“The car being driven at a high speed flung into air and landed on the sedan after somersaulting and fell on the other end of the road,” the Inspector said. Reddy sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to Hyderabad for treatment.

Azeem, his wife Arsha Sultana, 30, their daughter Mehavish, 3, Naseer’s wife Afreen, 27, and their daughter Arifa died in the gory accident. “It was tragic but rare as well,” the investigators said.

In a similar accident, three of a family, including seven-year-old girl Ramya, died in Banjara Hills of Hyderabad in July 2016. While they were travelling in their car, an oncoming car hit the divider and fell on theirs.
