Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's indictment in Panamagate graft charges has been deferred to October 9.
Ousted Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today appeared before an accountability court in Islamabad for an expected indictment in Panamagate graft charges, but walked out with a new date for hearing.
In addition, the court issued non-bailable warrants against Sharif's sons Hassan and Hussain, his daughter Mariyum Nawaz Sharif and her husband (Retd) Captain Safdar.
The hearing in the case has been deferred to October 9, Monday.
In late July, the Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified Sharif as a member of the National Assembly, finding him guilty of corruption in the Panama Papers case.
The court said cases should be opened against Sharif, his daughter Maryam, her husband Captain Muhammad Safdar, and Sharif's sons, Hassan and Hussain Nawaz.
On September 15, the Supreme Court dismissed a review petition filed by Sharif and his children.
Meanwhile, Sharif is expected to be reinstated as the chief of his party- Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) today after a scheduled party leadeship meet.
The party aims to restore the deposed premier as the party president after getting the Electoral Reforms Bill approved from the lower house of the parliament.
A National Assembly session has also been summoned today, two days earlier before the scheduled date. President Mamnoon Hussain is expected to sign the Electoral Reforms Bill 2017 into law immediately after it is passed in the lower house.
Last week, the ruling party had managed to muddle through passing the Electoral Reforms Bill 2017 without amending Clause 203, which states that any individual who is not qualified to become a member of the parliament, is not eligible to become a party's chairperson either.
After the verdict on Nawaz Sharif's ouster from the top executive office of the country, the election commission ordered the ruling party to elect a new party chief as a disqualified person cannot hold any office in a political party.
