Police swarmed the south end of the Las Vegas strip late on Sunday night (US time) following reports of multiple shots fired from the Mandalay Bay casino where there was a concert under way, police have said. The shooter had opened fire at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. The Las Vegas hospital said it was taking in several people with gunshot wounds. Video footage circulating on Twitter purportedly of the Mandalay Bay showed a crowd enjoying a concert before what sounds like volleys of automatic gunfire halt the performance.

Where It Happened: The shooting broke out on the last night of the three-day Route 91 Harvest festival, a sold-out event attended by thousands and featuring top acts such as Eric Church, Sam Hunt and Jason Aldean. Witnesses said that Aldean was performing on Sunday night when the rampage began... He had been bundled safely off stage at the event outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in the Nevada gambling mecca.
Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport, which is located near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino where the shooting had taken place, had said earlier that operations at the airport had been shut due to the shooting incident. It has however, resumed some flight operations, the airport said on twitter.
The shooter had opened fire at the Route 91 Harvest Festival near the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. Concert-goers said they saw muzzle flashes from the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino across Las Vegas Boulevard from the country music festival The sound, they say, seemed like automatic gun fire. Witnesses say that country singer Jason Aldean was playing near the end of the concert when the gunfire began.
Latest Update: The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department says on Twitter that "At this time we do not believe there are any more shooters."
Flights at Las Vegas' Mccarran International Airport were temporarily halted after the reported shooting, the airport said on Twitter.
One Twitter user posted that the casino hotel was on lockdown, while another, citing police scanners, said two gunmen who had shot at a bodyguard and police were on the 32nd floor. Video clips posted online show what sounds like automatic weapons as panicked concertgoers are seen fleeing. Some dropped to the ground screaming.

The spokeswoman for the University Medical Center hospital has said that 14 of the wounded are in a critical condition. All of them have suffered gunshot wounds, she said. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has said on Twitter: "Confirming that one suspect is down. This is an active investigation. Again, please do not head down to the Strip at this time."
