Man beaten to death while performing last rites of

A man was allegedly beaten to death while he was performing last rites of an acquaintance at a cremation ground in Odisha's Ganjam district today, police said.

The incident occurred at Jarada Gada village when the villagers had gone to the crematorium ground to attend the last rites.


The deceased and accused persons were identified as Kalia Nayak and Siba Nayak of Jarada Gada respectively. The accused person was arrested, said inspector-in charge, Jarada police station Sujit Kumar Nayak.

The accused person also received injuries following the attack by the family members of deceased. Police rescued him from them.

The villagers had gathered at the cremation ground to attend the funeral of Rama Chandra Nayak (70), a villager who died in the morning due to some ailments. Both Kalia and Siba were the neighborhood of Rama Chandra Nayak, sources said.

While the funeral ceremony was on in the cremation ground, Siba allegedly attacked Kalia without any provocation, the sources added.
