Uber's top boss in Britain will quit the taxi hailing app, according to an email seen by Reuters, as the company prepares to meet the London transport regulator in a bid to keep operating in one of its most important foreign markets. Silvia Antonioli reports.

Uber's top boss flies into London from the US just as its chief for Britain prepares to pack and go Northern European Manager Jo Bertram will quit in the next few weeks In an email seen by Reuters she says the company needs a new face to handle the current crisis in the region This, after Transport for London shocked the San Francisco-based app by declaring it unfit to run a taxi service and deciding not to renew its license to operate It said Uber is not good enough in reporting serious crime and making background checks on drivers. (SOUNDBITE) (English) CRAIG ERLAM, SENIOR MARKETS ANALYST, OANDA, SAYING: "I think one of the reasons that TFL has probably revoked the licence, or not offered Uber a new licence, is simply because they have demands that they want Uber to satisfy. I think there is going to be a tough negotiating period and I think both sides are going to come out with a situation that they both find satisfactory." The matter is serious enough to push Uber's new big boss Dara Khosrowshahi to fly in for an urgent meeting with London's transport authorities on Tuesday He is hoping to stem what could become a crisis spreading beyond London Taxi drivers were protesting against Uber in Prague by slowing down traffic around the airport They blame the popular ride sharing firm for not complying with licensing and safety rules Maybe a good enough reason for Khosrowshahi to extend his European trip
