Toddler among three of family killed in accident on Kharar-Morinda road

A woman who was injured in the accident was admitted to the PGI, Chandigarh. The family was going to Morinda after attending a wedding function.

THREE PERSONS, including a toddler, were killed in a road accident on under-construction Kharar-Morinda road late on Saturday night. A woman who was injured in the accident was admitted to the PGI, Chandigarh. The family was going to Morinda after attending a wedding function.

According to the police, the accident occurred around 12.15 am on Saturday when Davinder Singh (31), his father Harnek Singh (57), his wife Suman (29) and his one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Mandeep Kaur were going to Kurali after attending a wedding function at Mataur village in their Maruti Zen car. All the victims were residents of ward number 13 in Morinda.

Gurpreet Singh, a cousin of Davinder Singh, said that the family was returning home in a car and when they reached near Pakki Rurki village on Kharar-Morinda road, a rashly driven canter overtook the car.

“When the canter crossed from right side of the car, Davinder who was driving the car lost control of the vehicle. The car overturned several times towards the left side of the road. Davinder’s daughter Mandeep fell outside the car. Some passers-by called an ambulance and the police, following which the injured were taken to Kharar civil hospital,” he added.

The doctors declared Amrik Singh and Davinder Singh brought dead while Suman and Mandeep were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh, where Mandeep succumbed to her injuries on Sunday while Suman’s condition was also stated to be serious.

The police officials of Ghruan police post said that they had registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving), 304-A (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code against an unidentified driver of the canter who managed to flee along with the vehicle. The complaint was filed by Ravinder Singh

The police handed over the bodies of Amrik Singh and Davinder Singh to the family members after the post-mortem.
