Mumbai: Member of Parliament Kirit Somaiya is in the line of fire: it is claimed he was excluded from the BJP’s railway committee on Sunday after a video of Somaiya purportedly playing garba on the night of the stampede went viral. None of the railway officials have confirmed the move. The railway committee was instituted to gather facts following the stampede on September 29.
On Sunday, a video showing Somaiya playing garba went viral and it is stated that the video was shot on Friday night, which was the day when 23 commuters died in a stampede at Elphinstone Road railway station. The video allegedly shows Somaiya at a public Navratri celebration in Mulund and reports stated that the video was shot on Friday night itself.

Somaiya was one of the first politicians to arrive at the spot after the stampede was reported. He has been even otherwise in the forefront of the movement to focus on railway related issues and bring them to the notice of the Railway Ministry through persistent follow-ups.
The western railway officials were not aware of the video going viral. “I am not aware of any such decision being taken or the purported video,” said Mukul Jain, Divisional Railway Manager (Western Railway).
