BENGALURU: Press Council of India member K Amarnath on Sunday said there is a need for protection of those who are stand for freedom of speech and expression as a right. He was speaking at a seminar organised in memory of slain journalist Gauri Lankesh at Gandhi Bhavan on Kumara Krupa Road here. The event was organised by the Karnataka State Journalists Union.
Referring to the attacks on journalists, Amarnath said, “There is a dire need for a special amendment in the law to ensure safety and protection of journalists, for it is they who are the voice of the voiceless. There is a sense of fear among people to exercise their right to speech. If one exercises the right and gets killed, there is no need for such a right,” he added.
