HYDERABAD: The state BJP leaders had to face quite a few embarrassing moments on Sunday at the Alai Balai programme, a customary annual event hosted by former Union minister and BJP senior leader Bandaru Dattatreya when Opposition party leaders once again raised the issue of ‘injustice’ to a BC leader, none other than Dattatreya. However, BJP national leader Hansraj Gangaram Ahir tried to do the damage control by saying that Dattatreya has a ‘bright future’ ahead in the party.
Leaders of all major political parties and several prominent personalities participated in the event and exchanged greetings. Mouth watering Telangana dishes were also served and Telangana culture too was also showcased in the form of dances and songs.
While all this went on well, as the time for the speeches of politicians came, the issue of Dattatreya being shown the door from the Union cabinet too came to the fore. Dattatreya, a BC leader, was incidentally the only one representing Telangana in the Union cabinet till his ouster.
Congress senior leader and former MP V Hanumantha Rao asked the Union minister to convey the feelings of the BCs to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah.
TRS MP K Keshava Rao and TJAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram too expressed similar views but contended that Dattatreya brought laurels to whatever positions he held.
Hansran Gangaram Ahir later said that no one (BCs) should feel hurt about Dattatreya’s ouster. “Even PM Modi is a BC,’’ he said and added that BJP will utilise services of Dattatreya and he has a bright future in the party.
