Sounded like fireworks, says concert-goer
A concert-goer says he heard what sounded like fireworks while he was watching Jason Aldean’s performance at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival Sunday night, Associated Press reported.
Thirty-six-year-old Kodiak Yazzi said the music stopped temporarily and started up again before another round of pops sent the performers ducking for cover and fleeing the stage. As the 40,000 fans in the crowd began to flee, Yazzi took cover and said he saw flashes of light coming from the Mandalay Bay hotel tower high above.
The bursts of pops would start and stop for more than five minutes. He says he saw dozens of ambulances as he ran for safety. He later got a Lyft driver to take him home to suburban Henderson. Las Vegas police say one suspect is ‘down.’
A hospital spokeswoman says two people are dead and dozens wounded.

12 critical after shooting: AP
Of the 24 injured, 12 are critical, The Associated Press reported.
Latest update: Las Vegas Police confirmed that at least 20 people have died and over 100 are injured. The main aggressor in the incident has been killed.
At least two people were killed and more than 20 wounded when a gunman went on a shooting spree on the Las Vegas Strip, police and US media reports said.
Police said that the shooter was taken "down" after officers swarmed over the famous boulevard following reports of multiple shots being fired from the Mandalay Bay casino.
"At this time we do have a suspect down," Las Vegas police officer Steve Gomez told reporters, without elaborating. "We have numerous victims right now," he added.
While police did not immediately give a figure for the number of dead, CNN reported that at least two people had been killed in the shooting while several local news outlets put the number of injured at up to 24.
Pictures taken at the scene showed revelers cowering in the street or running in terror, as well what appeared to be several bodies lying prone on the ground.
A local hospital was taking in "several" people with gunshot wounds, University Medical Center spokeswoman Danita Cohen told the local Sun newspaper.
Video footage circulating on social media purportedly of the Mandalay Bay showed a crowd enjoying a country music concert before what sounded like volleys of automatic gunfire halted the performance.
A witness told local TV news station KLAS he saw someone several stories high firing hundreds of shots into a crowd of people.
Police however denied reports of multiple shooters.
"At this time we do not believe there are any more shooters," the department wrote on Twitter.
