Aadhaar-SIM Linking: How To Link Vodafone Number With Aadhaar

According to a government directive, all consumers have to link their mobile phone numbers with Aadhaar identity cards. If you do not link the 12-digit Unique Identity Number (UID), issued by the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), before February 2018, you will be unable to operate your mobile number. Keeping up with this rule, telecom service providers have been reminding customers to link their phone numbers with Aadhaar IDs. If you have a Vodafone number, here's how how you can link it with Aadhaar identity cards:

In order to update your Aadhaar details with your Vodafone number, you must visit your nearest company store, said a customer care service executive of the firm. All that you need is your Aadhaar card. The Aadhaar details must match with those of the person in whose name the SIM was issued, the executive added.

Sources told news agency Indo-Asian News Service that linking of Aadhaar and mobile is being done as per the orders of the Supreme Court passed in February this year in the Lokniti Foundation case and all SIM cards have to be verified with Aadhaar within a year from the date of judgement, with all unlinked phones to be deactivated thereafter (after February 2018).

Earlier, a top Vodafone official said that the merger of Vodafone India and Idea Cellular is on track and is expected to be completed in calendar year 2018. Vodafone India MD and CEO Sunil Sood said "absolutely", when asked if the merger of the two telecom firms is on course. Stating that the merger process goes through various stages, including approvals from the telecom department and other key bodies, Mr Sood said "we feel all of them are on track and in fact, we are going ahead on schedule".
