Assam government to gift Khadi clothes to state employees

What is aimed at promotion of Khadi clothing, BJP-led government in Assam has decided to gift Khadi dresses to its employees.

Assam Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Khadi Board will execute the scheme. “Two pairs of clothes will be given to state government employees and it can be wore during special occasions. This will assist in reviving the dying Khadi Board. We are also thinking of making school uniform of Khadi.”

He added, “ We can give men shirts and Salwar or saree to women employees. We are going to give coupons to the employees and they can get it from any of the stores of the Khadi Board.”

He added, “Wearing of the Khadi will be voluntary. We are not going to force them to wear the dress. The gifts will be given to the employees before the Rongali Bihu in April.”

There are around four lakh employees state government employees and the scheme will cost state government Rs. 12 crore.

Sarma said, “We have made provision for the same in the state budget.”

State budget for 2017-18 stated every employee will be provided Rs.1000 on reimbursement basis upon buying two Khadi apparels every year.
