VIJAYAWADA: Will Srisailam reservoir achieve Full Reservoir Level this year? The copious inflows for past fortnight into the project have made the dam officials happy and they are saying it is very much possible.
“There is no doubt that Srisailam project will have Full Reservoir Level in about four days time. There has been steady inflows from Jurala for past couple of weeks, thanks to the rains in the upper catchment areas in Karnataka and Maharashtra,” a senior official in the Water Resources department said.
On Sunday night at 8 p.m. the water levels at the project stood at 876 ft as against the FRL of 885 ft. That is, at present 168.27 TMC of water is there in the project. The total inflows into the project is 1,29,614 cusecs and the outflows 14,488 cusecs.
According to the officials, the last time the project has reached FRL was during Krishna Pushkarams last year and before that there was a gap of two years. That is to say, it would be second time, the project will be attaining FRL after the State bifurcation.
When the water levels reach 874 feet mark, it is considered as the water levels have reached flood mark.
The water accumulated above that mark is considered as flood water. However, the decision to release of the water from the project has to be taken by the Krishna River Water Management Board.
Earlier the Board had allocated water from the project to AP and TS based on the request made. Sixteen TMC were allocated to AP and 9 TMC to Telangana.
At that time, it was decided that water level should remain above 854 ft in Srisailam and 510 ft in Nagarjuna Sagar. However, with water levels increasing above flood level, officials say KRMB might meet again and revise the allocations. Only after the water allocation is made, the decision pertaining to the quantum of water to be released in Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi Project (GNSS), Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanti (HNSS) and Telugu Ganga projects in Rayalaseema will be decided.
