Faster Rajdhani Express trial today

The Railway Board has given a green signal for a third Rajdhani Express train from Delhi to Mumbai, operating between Hazrat Nizamuddin station and Bandra Terminus (BDTS) stations.

The trial for this train was originally scheduled for September 30, but put off for October 1 due to the stampede at the Elphinstone Road Station. It will be conducted this evening.

According to the Railway Board communique, the the trial run of Hazrat Nizamuddin-Bandra (T) Rajdhani Express will run with 18 coaches and with two locomotives. The maximum speed of the train would be 130 kmph and the train will have a single halt at Ratlam station.

The train will depart from Hazrat Nizamuddin at 4.25 p.m. on October 1 and will reach at Bandra Terminus on October 2 at 6.10 a.m. The train will take 13 hours and 45 minutes to travel the distance of 1,365 kms.

Presently, the August Kranti Rajdhani takes a little over 17 hours to cover 1,377 km at an average speed of 80 kmph, the Mumbai Central-New Delhi (or just Mumbai Rajdhani, as it is often referred to) train takes around 15 hours 35 minutes, clocking an average speed of 89 kmph to travel 1,386 km. Neither halts at Bandra.

A total of sixteen trains already run between Mumbai and Delhi.
