HYDERABAD: At least six people were killed and 16 others injured when an Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) bus rammed into a stationery lorry on National Highway 65 at Modugula village of Munagala mandal in Suryapet District of Telangana in the early hours of Sunday.

It is reported that the Hyderabad-bound bus of Avanigadda depot coming from Vijayawada side rammed into the lorry parked on road side. The accident occurred at 3 a.m. near Muddulacheruvu, about 150 km from Hyderabad.

The lorry driver, who was changing the deflated tyre of the vehicle, got trapped under the lorry and had to battle for life for three hours before a crane was brought to lift the vehicle and rescue the driver.

The driver, however, died before being shifted to a hospital.

Police said the bus started from Avanigadda bus depot in Andhra Pradesh and was on its way to Hyderabad when it rammed into the lorry from behind at Munagala mandal of Suryapet district. The lorry driver, Varaprasad, stopped the vehicle after its tyre got deflated and is changing it.

As there was no reflectors or indicators on the lorry, the bus driver did not notice the stationary vehicle and hit it from behind. With the collision, the jack used to lift the lorry got detached and the vehicle fell on Varaprasad's legs.

Varaprasad had to struggle for three hours before a crane was brought and the lorry lifted. He died of blood loss before being shifted to a hospital.

The injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital where they are being provided with medical aid.
As per reports, that there were nearly 40 passengers in the bus. The condition of four is stated to be critical.
