At least three people died and more than 15 were injured in an accident involving a State-run bus and a stationary lorry on NH 65 (Vijayawada-Hyderabad) in the wee hours of Sunday in Suryapet. Police and the emergency staff have shifted all the victims to the nearby Area hospital.
According to sources, an APSRTC bus (AP16Z 4457) of Avanigadda depot bound for Hyderabad, rammed into a stationary lorry around 3 a.m. in the Munagala police limits. The driver and the cleaner were repairing the broken-down lorry parked in the left lane.
Sources at the hospital say, "at least three dead and several others suffered limb injuries."
Pictures and videos of the accident spot circulated by the locals show the left side of the bus shattered. They said the collision could have been at a high speed, and there were screams and a crashing sound.
"As of now, the numbers and the impact from the accident is not clear. Victims are at the Suryapet and Kodad Area hospitals. One has died at the accident and two others were declared dead at the hospital," a police officer said.
Members of the same family could be at either of the hospitals. "We are working for more information," he added.
