Body recovered from Abohar canal in Ludhiana, three booked

Body of a 35-year-old man was recovered by the police from Sidhwan Bet branch of Abohar canal in Jagraon Saturday. The deceased, identified as Ranjeet Singh, allegedly committed suicide due to a property dispute in the family. He was missing since last three days and his body was recovered Saturday morning, police said.

Based on the statement of his wife, Amandeep Kaur, the Ludhiana (Rural) police has booked his three sisters for abetment to suicide.

She alleged that her husband was having a property dispute with his family members and he was denied share in the property due to which he was upset. The three sisters booked by the police have been identified as Kanwaljeet Kaur, Soni and Rani. The wife alleged that mother of the deceased also wanted to give entire property to her daughters.

ASI Bahadur Singh from Sidhwan Bet police station said that based on the statement of the wife of the deceased, an FIR has been registered against the sisters under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of IPC. He added that arrests will be made only after a probe.

Five, including couple and 6-year-old, die in accident

Five persons died while four others suffered injuries after a car and a mini-van had a head on collision near Kot Karore village in Talwandi Bhai block in Ferozepur on Saturday.

The deceased also include a Mumbai-based couple who along with their children were on their way to Golden Temple in Amritsar in a car when the incident took place. A six-year-old child, Gurnoor Singh, who was travelling in the van also died in the accident.

Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said that the driver of the car in which the Mumbai-based couple were travelling took a turn wrong direction and then the vehicle had a collision with a mini-van coming from opposite side. The drivers of both the vehicles died on the spot. The deceased have been identified as Rupinder Pal Kohli, wife Gurmeet Kaur from Mumbai, while the drivers have been identified as Tarsem Singh and Satnam Singh.
