NEW DELHI: The mockery of development by some political parties would not affect the Narendra Modi government's commitment towards the country's progress, Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said here today.

According to a statement from Naqvi's office, the Union minister for minority affairs told a gathering of BJP workers that "politics for progress" and "governance for development" were the mood of the nation currently.

He said Prime Minister Modi had created a "mood of development" in the country by making the poor people, youth, farmers and villages the central point of the welfare schemes.

In a veiled attack on the opposition, the minister alleged that a "frustrated bashing-brigade" was trying to paint a negative picture of the country by undermining the ground reality.

Stating that there was a "competition" going on between those who work and those who are engaged in "bashing and blaming", he said those who worked for the progress of the people would emerge victorious in the tussle.

While some people considered it as their "right" to blame Modi for everything, the prime minister treated working for the country's progress as his religion, Naqvi said.

He claimed that over the last three years since the Modi government came to power, the "blockade of the brokers from the power corridors of Delhi" and "lockout of the loot lobby" had created panic among the "champions of corruption".

The BJP leader also claimed that while the growth rate of the country's economy was about 4.5 per cent during the previous UPA regime, it had been above seven per cent during the last three years.

"The Modi government is moving forward to build a 'New India' through 'Reform, Perform and Transform', Naqvi said. ASG RC
