A video form Dharwad, Karnataka shows a distressing sight of a toddler wrapped in banana leaves made to lie down on a bed of hot coals.

The act was reportedly part of a Muharram ritual. A five-second video of the incident shows a man picking up a baby wrapped in banana leaves.

At the beginning of the video, the baby, who is believed to be a year old, is seen lying on a bed of hot coals. A sheet of what looks like more banana leaves separates the baby's body from the embers.

It wasn't immediately clear for how long the child was placed on the coals or whether the child suffered any injuries in the incident.

More details about the incident are awaited.
