MUMBAI: Faced with rising criticism of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train - a project close to PM Modi's heart -railway minister Piyush Goyal said on Saturday it was necessary for India's development, came at zero interest and was a safe technology with no record of accidents. MNS chief Raj Thackeray, Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray and P Chidambaram of Congress had spoken against the ambitious project.
Faced with outcry after the Mumbai foot over-bridge stampede killed 23, Goyal said FOBs, earlier considered a "passenger amenity", would be made "mandatory" as safety items at all stations.
