Photo by BL SONI Mumbai: Due to the spread of rumors like bridge collapse and at the same time rainfall thunderstorm triggered panic situation and laid stampede at congested Elphistone railway bridge which took 22 people lives and left 39 people critically injured and admitted to KEM Hospital. While BMC Deputy Municipal Commissioner (DMC) Sudhir Naik in Press Conference claimed that after immediate information received by the Disaster Management cell at 10.30 am the nearest hospital that is KEM was alerted about the emergency situation.

“A team of four doctors, with paramedical staff and ambulance, was rushed to the spot to provide basic medical assistance to the victims as only one ambulance of the railway was available on the location,” Naik said. He further stated that in the hospital a team of 40 doctors and 200 paramedical staff has been dedicated only to look after the victims. Out of the injured people admitted to KEM hospital, five are serious. Meanwhile, also the BMC officials claimed that there was proper co-ordination between railway officials and BMC.
