Four children drown in Yamuna river in Fatehpur

KANPUR: In a tragic incident, four children drowned to death while taking bath after immersing 'puja' material in Yamuna river on Saturday at Mauhari Ghat under Kishnupur police area of Fatehpur district.


Bhoori (14), her sister Prabhawati (12), their neighbours Preeti (14) and Prince (12), all natives of Maholi Ka Dera Majre Raipur Bharsaul village under the limits of Kishnupur police area of the district had gone to immerse 'puja' material along with other villagers in Yamuna river at Mauhari Ghat of the district.


"It was when they were taking bath in river Yamuna, they went into deep water and drowned," said an eyewitnesses.


The district administration soon launched a rescue operation with the help of police teams and divers. "Bodies of four were fished out and handed over to their parents after postmortem," said Circle Officer Surendra Kumar.
