IN A new addition to the list of judges in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the President has transferred Justice Bawa Singh Walia from the Jammu and Kashmir High Court to the High Court here in Chandigarh. Justice Walia will take charge on or before October 13, according to Presidential directions. A notification on the transfer was issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on Friday. Justice Walia was first appointed additional judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on September 25, 2014, and elevated as permanent High Court judge last year. Walia had been transferred to the J&K High Court in February 2015. Justice Walia’s transfer to the Punjab and Haryana High Court will take the number of judges here to 51. However, the number of judges in the High Court will still remain short of the sanctioned strength of 85 judges. Recent official data reveals that the pendency of cases in the High Court is over three lakh.
